Believe it or not, not everything in the ink and toner industry is as dull as it seems. Every once in a while a bored technician creates a good YouTube video or blog post that makes your jaw drop and ask yourself whether you really just saw that. After all, if you can’t have fun at your job, why do it?

This week we are going to take a look at a classic series exploring the importance of never putting foolish things in the microwave. For educational purposes only, of course. It is safe to assume that most people have had the unfortunate experience of accidentally (or intentionally) microwaving a bit of metal. We all know how this story ends–with a great light show, sparks and all, and a potentially blown circuit breaker in the basement. Not a good idea, right? Well, have you ever wondered what would happen if, instead of a spoon or a metal rimmed plate, you stuck an ink cartridge in there?

Well, thanks to the wonders of YouTube you can find out! Fortunately for our insomniac readers a couple of young gentlemen had the brilliant idea of trying to microwave ink to see how it would react, leaving us with another viral video classic to share with the copyboy at work. There is no need to spoil the ending of the video, but suffice to say that not only is microwaving ink not a bright idea, but most cartridges have copper plates on the bottom. Not good. Get yourself a good laugh by checking out the video for yourself!
