The HP LaserJet 5P is a laser printer manufactured by Hewlett Packard. HP designed the unit for personal as well as small group use, and it takes up only 16×18 inches of desk space. It uses black laser toner to produce fine quality print at 600×600 dots per inch resolution and generates 120 levels of gray for fine picture rendering. The 5P is well suited for personal or business use and can handle a variety of projects. It is perfect for term papers, proposals, letters, envelopes, labels, transparencies and can even handle light weight 3×5 inch cards.
HP gives the user a generous amount of features with this model. There are 45 scalable built-in fonts, 10 TrueType, 35 Intellifont, and 65 scalable TrueType fonts for Microsoft Windows. It also comes with two parallel ports and one Apple LocalTalk port, and includes auto switching between ports for easy group sharing. The unit prints six pages per minute, and when used with HP’s C3903A Microfine toner cartridge provides up to 4000 pages at five percent coverage. This workhorse has a 12,000 page per month duty cycle, and can generate plenty of pages for even the most demanding users. The LaserJet 5P comes with two paper trays with a combined capacity of 350 pieces, and can handle up to 8.5 x 14 inch legal paper. It uses HP’s PCL 5 printing language, and has an optional upgrade for Adobe PostScript Level 2. The 5P operates on the Windows operating system, and comes with a one year warranty.
